Long before humans organized themselves beyond family groups, Midgard was chosen for a specific yet unpleasant purpose. Being one of the few truly disconnected galaxies from the Hubcity networks it was the optimal choice for building an inescapable prison. Designed to contain the worst of the worst while at the same time making them docile enough that living amongst you would not pose a threat to the beings living here.

Does this mean you’re a prisoner? Probably not, more than likely you’re in one of two groups an Abysmal. The official term for those born under The Wall of the Abyss. The inescapable physical boundary that encircles the entirety of the “Milky Way” galaxy that has been reinforced around your local solar system. Or a person from Home, the official term for those born outside of The Wall of the Abyss.

The Wall of the Abyss is designed to drain this section of the Celestial Seas, or the Vaccum of Space in your terms of just over ninety-eight percent of all magic. That two percent that trickles through is heavily monitored. Its primary use is for the transportation of goods and persons both in and out of Midgard. Whatever remains between the scheduled portal openings is used for everyday magics. From people pouring their intent into wishes to significantly more complex spells, hexes & jinxes and more.

The Tromso Initiative is currently owned and operated by the Oleson family, originally from the Kingdom of Nordgren on Midgarden. The origins of the organization were created out of the deepest depths of grief. Xitian the Sword of Chymeria had lost her wife, Uzo the Wise of Ghanahai to Midgard’s first permanent prisoner, Zeldraz the Terror of Ignis.

Zeldraz of the Ignis Empire fire dragons was the first recorded sentient being to commit mass murder. At the time it was not a conceivable crime, the universe was just beginning to be settled and what is now known as The Lost Kingdom was just a fledgling kingdom that only covered the Original’s biosphere and not the vast system of planets it is today. Further the fact that he had targeted a nebulae nursery of Star children only made matters worse.

At the time Slayers were few in number and only two dared to accept the Slaying Contract to hunt down Zeldraz and bring him to justice. Uzo’s life was among a hundred thousand others that Zeldraz claimed while on the run. Her loss was the tipping point, the High Council determined that if the balancers of the universe could just barely contain him, something more drastic needed to happen to keep the universe safe.

Thus Xitian volunteered her services along with many others to create a prison that was inescapable. She left once operations were going smoothly, leaving the post to a volunteer until the Olesons of Nordgren decided a permanent station would be best. As it would provide a more consistent management and stability for the Abysmals who have been harmed by either intentional nefarious purposes or by accident.

Currently, there are a minimum of two Tromso Initiative Slaying Agents per country, from the Island Nations in the Pacific to the largest and most powerful countries in the world. You may have even run into one of them! They often live their lives as an active positive influence upon their communities. Their responsibilities beyond the Abysmals’ include resource management for Wyldkin families, educators for Slayers born or stationed here and occasionally true Slaying contract takers as well.

We take great pride in our work knowing that Midgard is a safe and controlled space for all who live here. As of the slayer victory in the second War of the Stars, it has been determined that complete and utter secrecy is no longer necessary and quite frankly a little old fashioned. Therefore it is our great pleasure to welcome both Abysmals and those from Home to the Tromso Initiative, we hope you enjoy a glimpse into the declassified world of Slayers and what they do.
